Policy Summary
Marine Cargo Insurance provides cover for loss of or damage to goods whilst in transit by sea or air and incidental land/ inland waterways transportation (including legal liabilities for general average and salvage where applicable) within the geographical limits and subject to conditions specified in the policy. This policy covers risks of loss or damage from accidental causes such as sinking, stranding, fire, collision, sea water, heavy weather, contact, explosion, damage during discharge or loading and special charges incurred at the point of distress and a wide range of other perils. Either single voyage policies or annual declaration policies are offered.
Client profile
This policy is ideal for; Importers, exporters, manufacturers, traders, motor vehicle importers and all other individuals and businesses that either occasionally or regularly import/ export raw materials, stocks for resale, equipment or any other goods.
In order to place a goods in Transit insurance Policy, the client will need to provide the following details:-
- Full Name of the client /proposer for insurance, Postal Address, Telephone Contact, PIN Number, Occupation (Business from which client derives his income)
- Description of the cargo, packaging and value
- Type of conveyance used e.g. by sea/ air, road, railway, Vessel Name.
- Voyage details; port of loading, port of discharge, final destination, expected date of arrival
- Basis of valuation: e.g. CIF (Cost + Insurance + Freight) + Duty + VAT + Handling Expenses, FOB etc.
